People Ready To Accept Dalits As Partners

"It is a positive sign that indicates greater sense of acceptance of inter-caste marriages and waning prejudices. It is one of the ways to make society casteless. It should be given robust support systems", K Raju, former IAS officer and head of the Scheduled Castes cell of Congress to TNN.

Southern states like Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are also part of the top 3 states with highest inter-caste weddings in the country. Andhra Pradesh leads all states in India with 3,040 marriages between dalit and non-dalit. The state had showed a healthy development in its growth as they had a total of 1805 in the 2011.

Kerala doubled its growth rate, as they recorded 2,454 inter-caste marriages when compared to their previous year’s number 1,040.

Tamil Nadu in the year 2011 had 2,750 marriages, but the July attack on the Dalit boy in Dharmapuri district showed that people still don’t accept inter-caste marriages involving dalits.
