An Australian businesswoman, Gail Kelly is the CEO of Westpac, Australia's second largest bank and the country's most influential businesswoman. She started her banking career as a teller in 1980 at Nedcor Bank. Her journey in Australia began as the General Manager of Strategic Marketing in the Commonwealth Bank in 1997. Her performance led her to be recruited as CEO of St. George Bank in 2002. At the time, St. George Bank was looked upon as the possible takeover target, but Kelly increased the bank's profitability and achieved much higher levels on return on assets. She resigned as CEO of the bank on August 2007 to take up the same position in Westpac, which took over St. George Bank in May 2008.
