Indian Drugs Users Now Opt For Synthetic Drugs

A senior NCB official said, "This is a very disturbing trend as synthetic drugs are far more harmful. Not surprisingly, in countries such as Netherlands, consumption of ganja and charas are legalized as it keeps people away from synthetic drugs," reports TOI.

The data further reveals that various states are into smuggling and consumption patterns of such drugs. Out of those states, Punjab with its deeply rooted problem of drug addiction, accounted for almost 50 percent of all heroin seizures, indicating widespread smuggling and use. This rampant used and smuggling of drugs in Punjab is mainly due to the India-Pakistan border. It is through the border where drugs are smuggled into India.

It is in the financial capital, Mumbai where most disturbing figure has come across. The city, accounting for 82 percent of all seizures in the previous year, emerges as the biggest market for cocaine.

An NCB officer from Mumbai said, "Cocaine is extremely popular among the rich and mighty of the city. Its abuse is rampant in Bollywood and the glamour industry," reports TOI.

When it comes to natural drugs, Andhra Pradesh tops the pack with 24 percent share of cannabis seizures.
