India, U.S. Gears for Next Round of Military Exercises

On the other hand, India remains to emerge as "neutral player" in the growing power play between the U.S., Japan and others on one side and China on the other in the region.

On the part of U.S. front, the activities of joint combat exercises has slowed down a bit, Indian and American officials in the recently held "initial planning conference" decided to carry out the Yudh Abhyas exercise at Chaubatia (Uttarakhand) from September 17 to 30.

As per the source, "The main thrust will be counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency in hilly terrain. There will be around 250 troops from each side, including Special Forces. The two armies usually hold two to three exercises every year but Yudh Abhyas will be the only one this year," reports TNN.

So far, over the last decade, India and the U.S. have carried out more than 70 exercises between their armed forces that show most evident symbols of their military cooperation.
