Google, Microsoft And Yahoo- Elite Companies That Tried To Acquire Facebook

2. Microsoft

Microsoft’s chief executive Steve Ballmer made an attempt to buy Facebook in 2007 by offering them $15 billion. As mentioned in The Facebook effect by Kirkpatrick once Ballmer raised a question against Zuckeberg saying that “Why don’t we just buy you for $15 billion?” and in answer Zuckerberg replied that “I don’t want to sell the company unless I can keep control” reports Business Insider. Microsoft made many attempts to acquire Facebook but all went in vain and recently it has managed to acquire 1.6 percent stake of the social networking company for $250 million.

3. Yahoo!

Yahoo was another company who was interested in buying Facebook. In 2006, Yahoo decided to offer Facebook $1 billion. This was the period when even many of the new investors and executives of Facebook wanted to sell it. But Zuckerberg figured out that the company will be more worth than $1 billion if its new launch News Feed went well. Due to some weak earnings in Yahoo, it lowered its offer to $850 million which was rejected by Facebook. After this attempt Yahoo made many attempts to buy Facebook enhancing the offer to  more than $1 billion but in vain.

4. An unnamed financer

When Facebook went live in 2004 prior to any investment, an unnamed financer from New York offered $10 million. This offer was made in just four months after the company came in to light, but it seems that 20-year old Zuckerberg didn’t take that offer seriously then.
