Give Us Our Hometown Back: Tibetans to Facebook

Detailing further on its purpose and the cause, the website says, “We recognize and welcome the fact that the administrators of this socially responsible organization respect; and is committed to human rights, justice, democratic values and freedom. As such we are hopeful that they will have no objection, in allowing Tibetans worldwide, the freedom, to select for a profile, their hometown of Lhasa, Tibet, and not be forced to choose an option that perpetuates China’s cynical fabrication. We look forward to a positive response from Facebook.”

Tibet, the highest region on earth, was incorporated into the People's Republic of China in 1951. ‘Xizang’ is the Mandarin name for the Tibetan Autonomous Region and Lhasa is the capital of the region. The Tibetian freedom fighters argue that it’s their land and there is an ongoing protest against the Chinese occupation in the region, which has long been guided by its leaders in exile. More than two dozen Tibetans have set fire to themselves in protest at China’s occupation and the most recent one took place on March 10 by a teenage Tibetan monk. March 10th marked the 53rd anniversary of a failed Tibetan uprising that took place in Lhasa in 1959, reports Sonia.

There are many other groups campaigning against the media prejudice about the Chinese ownership of Tibet. Tibettruth features an attempt by another group called Anonymous Tibet that has been protesting against many reports on the UK Newspaper ‘The Guardian’ which has apparently carried news articles suggestive of Chinese supremacy over Tibet.
