Checkers

This is one of the simplest game in the list, and in terms of popularity, it is second only to chess. The rules of the game are regarded as simplistic by any standard, but the pure strategy it demands can be extremely taxing.

This game is played between two opponents and it features disc shaped pawns which move along an 8X8 grid jumping opponent’s pawns to remove them from the game.

Go

Though it is not as popular as some of the other games in the list, the game definitely needs a special mention. Invented by Chinese about 2,500 years ago, this game was a popular source of fun and entertainment in the ancient world. And thanks to its relatively simple rules and rich demand for strategic resilience, the game spread like a wildfire and won the hearts of millions of people outside China. In the words of chess master Emanuel Lasker, "The rules of Go are so elegant, organic, and rigorously logical that if intelligent life forms exist elsewhere in the universe, they almost certainly play Go".
