Gadgets which have become Obsolete
The Video Home System-better known as VHS-was developed by the Victor Company of Japan. In the 1970s there came a period when video recording became the major contributior to the television industry. Although VHS was a popular delivery format for long-play content, VHS was also used to deliver short-play content. The VHS single format gained higher levels of mainstream popularity when Madonna released her album "Justify My Love" as a video single in 1990, after the blacklisting of the video by MTV. VHS was commonly included in various products and services, and the corporations used to use the VHS format to deliver addressed made by company executives to the regional offices. The VHS VCR was a mainstay in the world, but got replaced by newer technologies. In the later years, optical disc formats began offering better quality than the video tape. Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) format eventually achieved mass acceptance and replaced VHS as the preferred method of distribution after 2000. In December 2008, the last major U.S. supplier of pre-recorded VHS tapes, the Distribution Video Audio Inc., shipped its final truckload.
