Fight Against AIDS Witnesses a Remarkable Progress

In 2011, UN members agreed to set a target for providing HIV treatment to 15 million people by 2015.

Countries have leveled up their treatment coverage and an early action for HIV treatment can reduce its spread. The World Health Organization has prepared a new set of guidelines in 2013, by which more than 10 million will be provided with medical facilities.

UN AIDS' executive director, Michel Sidibé, said that the international administration should target on beating the 2015 goal.

"Not only can we meet the 2015 target of 15 million people on HIV treatment, we must also go beyond and have the vision and commitment to ensure no one is left behind," he said in a statement

The report implies that many countries have increased their domestic spending on the epidemic, despite a knock-down in funding for HIV.

On a global basis, the total funding for the fight against HIV and AIDS in 2012 was $18.9 billion which is about $3 billion to $5 billion less from the estimated $22 billion to $24 billion required by 2015.
