Facebook Fever High among Indian Students

“Combination of more bandwidth, availability of smart devices and the surging popularity of social networks is changing the way India’s high school students conduct their academic and social lives. As significant employers of India’s talented youth, we need to understand how to leverage these social trends to create engaging careers for tomorrow’s professionals,” N Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD, TCS commented on the survey results.

The TCS Generation Y Survey 2011-12 which was conducted over 12,300 high school students across 12 Indian cities revealed top ten trends among the Indians. The survey used questionnaire comprised sections such as Gadgets, Social Networking, Information Access, Career Interests, Media and Communication preferences to find the data.

There is always an urge in everyone towards social communication. When the parents are busy with their work, they hardly find any time for communication with their children. The huge increase in the usage of social media sites, especially Facebook among children points to some of these facts.

The Facebook fever is not just a matter in India. The survey conducted by Consumer Reports reveals the global trend of this social media while TCS survey finds out the Indian trend. Interestingly all point to the single fact that the children today are under the Facebook obsession.

As per survey conducted by consumer reports, out of 20 million children who actively use Facebook, 7.5 million were younger than 13 years. These kids are not legally permitted to use this site. Surprisingly more than 5 million of these users were children under 10 and most of their accounts were unsupervised by their parents.
