Early Monsoon in India, a Blessing in Disguise for Agriculture


Secretary General of the Consortium of Indian Farmers Association, P. Chengal Reddy speaking to Bloomberg News said, “Early rainfall augurs well for all rainfed crops including soybean, cotton, sugar cane, rice, corn.” He also stated that “Early and more than normal rains will recharge the groundwater and help farmers who are dependent on irrigation."

According to the weather bureau, there will be 98 percent rainfall of the average of 89 centimeters (35 inches) in the four months till September. It described the normal rainfall as 96 percent to 104 percent of the average received between 1951 and 2000.

The bureau also held that showers in the wettest month of the season that is in July will be 101 percent of the average and more than the 87 percent of the previous year.

A vigorous production of crop in winter and the monsoons performance has bonded well so far for economic growth with the interest rates keeping it constant, as stated by the Reserve Bank of India.
