Coffee Day's Massive Expansion, A Serious Threat To Starbucks Bangalore Entry

CCD has voraciously acquired spaces over the years with high visibility. “CCD is now the fastest to closing a leasing deal in the retail sector.  They close deals within 30 days against an industry average of 3 months or more,” said Prashanth Sambargi, Partner, Mars Realty, who handles leasing for some of Bangalore’s coffee chains.

The Indian coffee giant, CCD has shown a tremendous growth during last couple of years and currently runs over 1,497 cafes across India. It is planning to cross the 2000 mark by 2015, which will be the double of what they achieved by 2010. Starbucks has a similar history of opening 1000 cafes in just 5 years after its listing on the New York Stock Exchange in 1992.

Starbucks is expected to initially launch about a dozen cafes across the cities especially targeting places like RMZ Infinity on Old Madras Road, Phoenix Market City in Whitefield, Garuda Mall, Jayanagar 4th Block, Indiranagar 100ft Road, and Koramangala.
