Varun Founded ScaleArc Secures $5.33 Million From Trinity Ventures

California: California-based database infrastructure software maker, ScaleArc has raised $5.33 million in its series B round of funding from Trinity Ventures and existing investor Nexus Venture Partners. As part of the investment former Juniper Networks executive, Justin Barney would be joining ScaleArc as President and COO.

Taking about the induction of Barney as COO and the funds raised, Varun Singh, Founder and CEO, ScaleArc says, “Justin brings a wealth of operational leadership built over a distinguished career working with startups as well as large companies. Justin’s appointment and Series B financing from Trinity Ventures and Nexus Venture partners will allow us to meet increased demand as we continue to develop and market our new breed of database infrastructure software technology.”

The iDB software provides real time query analytics and control, instant horizontal scaling for balancing, enforcement of security policies, and much more without any changes to the existing applications, or databases.  ScaleArc has approximately 18 employees as of now and are actively hiring.

Talking about the investment, Fred Wang, General Partner, Trinity Ventures, says, “Trinity Ventures has been actively looking for innovative companies solving database scaling and performance issues and ScaleArc’s new database is as refreshingly simple as server virtualization was a decade ago. Prior to founding ScaleArc, Singh used to Co-Host the show Technoholik on ET Now and was the Founding CTO at Web18, a part of Network 18. He was also the Executive Editor, Technology at Network 18; the Windows Cluster manager at Digital Media UK, and the Founder and Editor at TechTree.com. Singh was the Chief Implementer-Network Future and Senior Reviewer at Jasubhai Digital Media.

Talking about the market size, Varun Singh, Founder & CEO, ScaleArc says, “The annual database market in U.S. is approximately $ 30 billion and we aim to become a significant part of it. iDB represents a new category of database infrastructure software, since previous solutions have existed only at the database or application end.”

Trinity Ventures is an early stage venture firm, which focuses on seed and early stage companies in targeted technology categories. Nexus Venture Partners, is a venture capital fund, which invests in early and growth stage companies across sectors. It has over $300 million under management and prefers to invest early and play a formative role in developing the company. They typically make an initial investment of $100,000 to $ 10 milion and follow that by participating in the subsequent rounds of financing.
