U.S. Singles out India by Denying L1 Visas

L1 Visas which are known as short term work visas for professionals went down by 28 percent at 25,898 in 2011, whereas the quota for professionals from other countries rose by 15 percent. "This shows an enormous gap in visas issued as well as approval/denial rates between posts in India and the rest of the world, raising policy questions as to whether this great disparity is the result of a conscious policy at US posts in India," the National Foundation for American Policy wrote in its report.
Every year Indian software companies send about 25,000-35,000 Indians to U.S. on work assignments. About 40 percent of the visas which is given to professionals come under L1 visas. Professionals, who are highly skilled in their field, have immense knowledge about their work and who carry the tag of Project manager is given L1 visas.
The U.S. government showing discrimination to India has been justified by pulling up the issue of an American employee of Infosys who accused the company for misusing the short term work B1 visa for doing some software coding where as the visa had to be used only for client meetings. The $70 billion Indian IT sector is under complete scrutiny as immigration rules have become more stringent and the fees for H1 and L1 visas have been increased exceptionally.
IT servicing sector has been the biggest back bone for Indian economy and major revenue is churned from it. Banking on the booming servicing business, there are many home grown companies now. With the competition getting stiffer between the mid size and the giants, every visa denial is a pinch to their business.
"When the going gets tough, the tough gets going" is what all companies are adapting to. Finding newer solutions to visa problems, the IT firms have decided to use technologies such as telepresence to compensate for the presence of an expert at the customer's site.

If they reject L1 Visa ,We have many other Options ,Like applying for H1B ,
If you look at the rate of H1B approvals for offshore companies ,CTS was the highest ,That indicates that offshore companies are also playing games here ,If not L1 we ahev H1B to get people to onsite ,hehhehehhe,
Thx

THE U.S.Consulate General has the right to deny any type of visa to anyone of any national without explanation. The End of this story.

I sometimes wonder what goes on in some minds. The discussion here is about limiting L1 Visas. Initially in late 80s Indian businesses misused the B1/B2 visa. Then came H1B. They were misused as well. Now its L1/L4. Somehow, Indian Businesses have found a way to go around everything. Misuse is everywhere. Especially when the US is dealing with the high unemployment, why import 'cheap' labor. It needs to support its own first. Also more importantly, the quality of people being brought on L1 is pathetic. Jai Ho...

Obama is opens his heart out to the adherents of 'religion of peace'. He never looked like he is a friend of India at all. An idealist Marxist who is out to change American culture. All we can pray and hope is he is gone this year, before he changes US into a business hating, entitlement oriented socialist economy.

India also has similar restrictive policies , Professionals born in certain countries regardless of their current Citizenship , Skills and Business needs are denied or even prevented from applying for Indian Visas. It is all about economic and political strategies.

What is wrong? One country has taken advantage all this time by getting most of the L1 visas and now other countries want those visas. What is lost in all this debate is the middlemen including bodyshops getting the biggest cut. Of course US companies want cheap labor.

an eye opening for all Indians.... get self dependent....nothing comes free, if we were enjoying the leisure time by getting jobs from US, they were preparing to enter our markets to take away all our profit and local markets by FDI and Food security.....

When India let's American companies sell in India, you can sell here. You have had it too good for too long. Dont like it? We don't like the Walmart decision. Support serfs can be had anywhere, that's how it came to India in the first place. Good luck!

screw it Bushie, the truth is there are not enough guys here to handle all the high tech stuff that Indians are involved in. US is dependent on India for software and on China for all goods. Also they are dependent on the entire world to take care of their monetary needs, China rightly gave a whip lash by saying US needs to mend its ways and not always look toward getting funds from other countries. With a trillion dollar deficit looming around the corner and having lost all ground to China and other BRIC countries there is no way US can stand on its feet. Wake up from the Bushes Mr.Bushie.

Decision on Walmart had no bearing on consciously cutting down L1 visas, US is just playing politics with India. Indian government on the other hand is so weak and UD is assuming that they may bow down to pressure tactics like these.

Guys, seem to be going around on surface scrubbing! This world has changed, there is an interplay of all resources across the globe. If it rains in Chennai, CA will catch cold, If there is a shake up in a almost irrelevant country like Greece impact is felt in China. In this new world of high connectivity, all that needs is to break the geographical barriers, which is politically naive to attempt at this stage, but a day is not far...but what all of us should really do is break the barrier of hatredness and frog in the well attitude in our Minds and harness each other's capability and strength mutually to grow together. That is the only way forward. But this also requires a clear understanding that there could be temporary setbacks in some area or other to every one at some point of time, but in the long run it is beneficial to all. If we as humanity break this barrier of race, country, religion and only look at cooperative and coordinated work effort and join hands, we can make the polity and society move towards the NEW WORLD ORDER of peaceful and prosperous co-living.
