UIDAI project will help IT cos innovate: Nilekani
Bangalore: Nandan Nilekani, the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India said the project called Aadhaar will be a platform for innovation for the IT companies to build applications for various services. At the Nasscom summit on infrastructure management services, Nilekani said, "We are providing identity verification as a cloud service. You can then build applications and embed the verification into your applications." Also financial inclusion services will be benefitted when authentication of an Aadhaar number takes place over a mobile phone. Nilekani added, "Initially, we are doing enrollment through state governments, banks and oil companies but over time, once more people have the Aadhaar numbers, then people are going to build value chain applications. Innovation is going to happen. We are now examining how to build those kinds of applications." The UIDAI expects to roll out the Aadhaar project in about four weeks time from now. It will enroll about 600 million people in four years through state governments and public sector undertakings. It expects an increase in the enrollment with increase in benefits such as enabling financial transaction or a mobile SIM card purchase, are attached to the Aadhaar number.
