UBI selects Cisco and Wipro to deploy WAN solution

Bangalore: United Bank of India (UBI) has announced that it has chosen Cisco and Wipro for the wide area network (WAN) optimization solution. They are planning to deploy Cisco's wide area network optimization solution across all of its more than its 1,600 branches. There is no information available about the financial details. The solution will include Cisco's Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) devices, Cisco's comprehensive WAN optimization solution, in addition to application accelerators for the data centre and disaster recovery sites. According to this contract, Wipro will commission, implement and integrate Cisco's solutions with the bank's existing network. The solution will help to improve UBI's productivity, quality of their satellite and will save the server hardware in branches. The solution will also help to increase productivity levels at UBI's remote branch location. It allows branches to accelerate application traffic over the WAN by providing local hosting of branch-office IT services and will enable IT departments to centralize applications and storage in the data centre. Bhaskar Sen, Chairman and Managing Director, UBI, said "We are extremely satisfied with the proof of concept done by Cisco, which resulted in significant benefits at the remote locations. With the final deployment, we are confident of being able to better communicate and collaborate with our remote branches, effectively serve our customers with minimal turnaround time and leverage Cisco's superior video capabilities to bring down travel costs. He added that Bank has also focused on alternate delivery channels through expansion of ATM network and implementation of feature rich Internet Banking and Tele Banking applications.
