Bangalore: India’s economic growth has seen deals worth $7.7 billion in 2011, with around 347 transactions. Real estate saw the highest PE investments, to the tune of $1700 million. The sector wise contributors were real estate (22 percent), automotive (13 percent), power & energy (12 percent), banking & finance (11 percent) and IT & ITes (10 percent). Here are the top PE firms of 2011.

Bain Capital

The PE firm has invested in a total of 200 firms since its inception and has over $78 billion under management. The firm was founded in 1984 by Williard M. Romney, T. Coleman Andrews III, and Eric Kriss. It is headquartered in Boston. It raised its initial fund of $37 million in 1984. The famous companies it has invested in are Warner Music Group, Burger King, Domino’s Pizza, and many more. Its preferred stages include seed, buyouts and acquisitions, and restructuring and special situations. In 2011, Bain Capital along with the Government of Singapore invested $848million in Hero Investment.
