Baskin-Robbins
With a brand awareness of 98 percent, Baskin-Robbins makes itself one of the recognized ice cream brands in the world. With more than 6,000 stores in 35 countries, it was founded by Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins in 1945 from the merging of their respective ice cream parlors in California. It started as separate ventures from Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins, and when the two companies merged in 1953, it kicked off the market with 31 flavors of ice creams.
By 1948, Burt and Irv opened six stores; the first franchise covering the sale of ice cream was executed on May 20, 1948. In 1949, they started their own production facility opened in Burbank. Their decision to sell the stores to the managers made them the first franchised food service businesses. It was also the first company to introduce ice cream cakes to the public.
