Bangalore: Facebook might be popular than Twitter in many aspects. But according to a recent press report published on CBS news, more young people have started shifting to Twitter, without abandoning their Facebook account.

The report quoted data from Pew Internet and American Life project which showed the percent of teens using Twitter doubled to 16 on July 2011 compared to 8 percent in the previous year. “That doubling is definitely a significant increase,” says Mary Madden, senior research specialist at Pew. And she suspects it’s even higher now.

Twitter which launched in 2006 had made a reputation which made certain people think that it won’t match the teenager’s internet habits. But based on the recent reports, here are the things that drag younger generation more towards twitter.

1 Twitter: Anonymity is all Privacy

The main advantage of teenagers with Facebook was its privacy. But with parents, neighbors, and everyone befriending them in the social network, their space turned out to be not theirs anymore. This made many teens to migrate to Twitter, where they can have multiple accounts on which don’t have to use their real names and moreover, “express their views” without fear.

“I love twitter, it’s the only thing I have to myself, cause my parents don’t have one,” Britteny Praznik, a 17-year-old tweeted recently.
