Bangalore: The main aim of scientists and engineers the world over is to solve problems in efficient ways, but what better way to get the solution for a problem than to observe nature? After all, humans have always examined nature to find out how to do things better over time.

Airplanes were inspired by birds, and solar cells were built on the idea of photosynthesis in plants. But Nature has shown us that it can inspire us in more than just a few ways.

Here are some nature-inspired technologies that could improve the way we do things.

1. Amphibian Froth inspired Bio-Fuel: Foam, to most humans, is nothing more than topping for drinks. However, scientists and engineers have come up with a solution that could soak up Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and produce sugars that could be transformed into bio-fuel. The invention won the 2010 Earth award. The scientists plan to install the artificial foam in coal-burning plants since its frothy structure can absorb around 5 times as much of CO2 as plants.
