TiECon Midwest 2010 to begin on Oct. 28

Princeton: The Detroit chapter of TiE will present the annual TiE Midwest 20 Startup Awards 2010 at its TiECon Midwest annual conference to be held at The Henry Ford in Dearborn. The two-day conference on October 28 and 29, 2010 is one of the largest entrepreneurship focused conferences in the region attracting successful Entrepreneurs, Venture Capitalists, Angel Investors and Industry Executives. The conference will have a number of high-powered keynote speakers from all over the world including Desh Deshpande, Obama's National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship; David O. Egner, President & CEO, Hudson-Webber Foundation; Sandy K. Baruah, President & CEO, Detroit Regional Chamber; Shawne Duperon, CEO, ShawneTV and others. The event also will have a business plan competition which is aimed to act as a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs, including both seasoned professionals and students, to turn great ideas and dreams into high quality business plans and eventually into successful businesses. TiE 20 are an elite group of Top 20 Early Stage Startups recognized and awarded from among hundreds of nominees at the annual TiECon Midwest 2010. TiE 20 will be selected from four industry segments-Internet, Software, Mobile and Media. TiE20 finalists will be picked from a qualified pool of hundreds of startup nominees by a combination of evaluations, screenings and judging by successful Entrepreneurs, Venture Capitalists, Domain Experts and Public Polling. The applied parameters include Business Model, Technology / IP, Market Viability and Management Team. The other qualification is that the startups should be in the business not more than three years, boot strapped or raised capital not exceeding $1 million. In addition to the above, the final list of candidates will be judged on their product or service, market size and dynamics, leadership team, business model and progress since founding.
