StopTheHacker Secures $1.1 Million Funding

California: California based SaaS website security services provider StopTheHacker has raised $1.1 million in initial funding from Runa Capital, and Brian NeSmith, the former CEO of Bluecoat. As part of the investment, Andre Bliznyuk, Partner at Runa Capital has joined the company’s Board. Previously, the company had raised funding from the National Science Foundation.

The company provides SaaS services to web hosters, website owners, administrators, and web designers to help them protect, detect, and recover from malware attacks and other types of online abuse. The company was founded by Peter M Jensen, Anirban Banerjee, and Michalis Faloutsos. Banerjee holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California. He is also an active part of varioys security circles and groups focusing on eradication of web-malware.

It is a new type of protection for websites, vital for the majority of today’s businesses and their customers are receiving constant proactive protection, without the need to install additional softwares or hardware.”

The company uses Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques to catch malware efficiently. It estimated that more than 75 percent of the hosted websites have vulnerabilities and 6,000 websites are blacklisted by Google everyday due to malware infestation. It also estimates that 2.5-5 percent of all the hosted websites are infected, and that the current anti-virus softwares catch only 40 percent of the harmful web malware, leaving more than 100 million websites unprotected.
