Fremont: California-based Quantance, manufacturer of power supply for 4G mobile devices, has raised $11 million in series C funding from TD Fund, Granite Ventures, InterWest Partners and DoCoMo Capital. The fund will be used to expand the company's family of power management products, including ultrafast power supplies for 4G devices. Quantance's patented and field-tested technology makes faster uplink speeds, improved performance and better network coverage a reality for consumers of smartphones, tablets and data cards. The fund will also be used to support extension of the company's intellectual property into next-generation products serving broader markets and enable it to grow its employee base by at least 50 percent this year. Quantance was founded in 2006 by Vikas Vinayak and Serge Drogi on the premise of designing an RF and power management system that harvest the efficiency benefits of power supply modulation at the power amplifier for high peak to average radio signals. The company is venture-backed semiconductor startup based in Silicon Valley. Vikas Vinayak, CEO and Co-Founder, Quantance, said, "We are all looking for longer battery life and better data performance from our mobile devices. To achieve this, a power supply must constantly adapt to deliver power only when it is needed, maximizing both performance and economy. The company's ultrafast power supply bridges that divide to deliver the full promise of 4G wireless and enable the next generation of computer-intensive mobile and server processing." Vinayak is a technical entrepreneur. With the opening of the Indian economy in 1991 and consequent expansion of CNN into India, he co-founded TouchBeam Systems, a CATV Head-end Equipment company. Vinayak moved to the U.S. in 1999 to work for the Silicon Valley operations of National Semiconductor, where he took on various leadership role, including Manger of Wireless Applications covering National's Platinum, DECT, Bluetooth and GSM product lines. He joined Maxim Integrated Products in 2002 as Business Manager for UMTS RF Transceivers where he was involved in the architecture design, and production of RF products. He holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the IIT-Delhi. "Quantance is a performance leader in a booming market that is forecast to consume 10 billion devices over the next eight years. We look forward to seeing the company's patented technology begin to appear in many leading - edge 4G devices," said Eric Zimits, MD at Granite Ventures.
