'PanIIT Panch Ratnas' to reform higher education in India
Bangalore: To bring in reforms in the higher education system in India, PanIIT Alumni team has submitted five point agenda to the President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil. The White Paper titled "PanIIT Panch Ratnas", which encloses five action points recommending that the government should undertake to make India the global hub for knowledge creation and talent development by 2022. Ashank Desai, Chairman of PanIIT and Founder of Mastek, said, "This paper aims to give the Indian education system a global perspective. It is an outcome of efforts of the PanIIT Alumni team in the U.S. and India in academia and industry." The committee led by Vijay Thadani, CEO, NIIT comprises practising educators, consultants and entrepreneurs who have proposed forward looking initiatives in the agenda. The "PanIIT Panch Ratnas" includes the implementation of comprehensive reforms in policies and governance, mandate quality and increase capacity, enable quantum improvement in faculty service conditions, to deploy technology for teaching and collaborative research and establish an active industry-academia interface. "The white paper presented, is action oriented and based on needs. It is to bring about a change in the current education paradigm by providing accessible, affordable, and quality education that prepares the youth for greater roles in the global economy," said Thadani. As a next step, PanIIT Education Committee is launching 'PanIIT Knowledge Leaders Initiative' which will organize a workshop in India for representatives from the government, industry, universities, colleges, NGOs and concerned citizens to highlight the needs to change the current education paradigm.
