Bangalore: Every new platform offers a new avenue to the developers to showcase their abilities and monetize the prospect at hand. With e-Commerce becoming a standalone business, here comes one more door for developers to step into and make the most of it. The connection between developers and e-Commerce is made stronger by eBay, the pioneers in online shopping. eBay offers developers the biggest and most open commerce platform, the eBay Developers Forum, to build apps for eBay sellers and drive traffic to the site. While it relates both Java and general developers to be a part of e-Commerce and m-Commerce ecosystem, it also provides monetization prospects to them, shared Rajesh Ramachandran, GM - Head of IPC, eBay India Product Center at the SiliconIndia Java Conference. The apps developed for this platform pay the developers handsomely, with 80 percent going to the developers and 20 percent retained by eBay. Developers can build apps to help the sellers in eBay or apps that can bring in traffic to the website. The revenue gained in the e-Commerce business touches up to $1.5 trillion each year. Even in India, the online business is gaining pace and is today a market of 2,000 crore with a market growth of 20-30 percent. Ramachandran branded eBay Developers Forum to be a proven platform which allows for standardized 100 percent Java language programming. "The developers are provided with the entire infrastructure in the eBay sandbox and the marketing of the apps is also taken care by eBay", said Ramachandran. Some people are skeptical about shopping online due to the problem of transaction security. eBay resolves this issue for the consumers by providing 'cash on delivery' scheme and with its 'buy back guarantee' it wins the trust of the customers. When a strong brand like eBay backs your app, it is all the more a reason to join the developer forum. Although the e-Commerce has mustered a strong foothold, the m-Commerce still needs a push, stated Ramachandran. With mobile commerce, one can reach a larger customer base, communicating via vernacular languages. However more needs to be done in this area for it to grow into a full-fledged business. And developers can sure do a lot in this segment. With eBay's Developers Forum, developers have got a new platform to build apps for which promises rapid innovation along with attractive monetization.
