Bangalore: Since almost 10 years, companies have known the benefits of adopting open source for business. Few have followed but the rest have stayed away from it. With the global economic slowdown forcing companies to rethink strategies, there has been one thing which has motivated companies the most, that is, Google extensively using open source. Despite the impressive sales and profits that Red Hat and other traditional open-source companies consistently deliver, the industry needed Google to take open source to another level, reports CNET. Google has been involved with open source for a long time and has been hiring brightest open source developers like Guido van Rossum and Greg Stein. But in recent years, Google started taking Open source more seriously and created open source platforms like Android, Chrome to challenge the might of Microsoft and Apple. This strategy is working perfectly fine for Google. Google Android is already been used by many smartphones and Chrome Operating system is already creating buzz. Seeing successfully monetization of the open source business will definitely inspire more companies to go open source next year.
