Bangalore: Motorola Mobility faced a breakdown in its sales graph in the fourth quarter of 2011 as it sold only 10.4 million handsets, of which only 5.3 million handsets were smartphones. This stat is very low in comparison with the sales of Apple and Samsung.

Wall Street predicted Motorola’s revenue earnings to be $3.96 billion but it was actually $3.4 billion in the last quarter of 2011. Even the product sales had reduced to 10.4 million handsets from 11.3 million in 2011. The high peaked festive season of Christmas also couldn’t help the market sales of Motorola.

But on its counterpart, Motorola alleged that the poor smartphones sales were due to intense market competition and higher costs. In the present scenario Motorola still promises to maintain the market in a favorable manner.

Analysts predicted the earning to be 42 cents per share but it has fallen to 32 cents in the New York Stock Exchange. According to reports, there is not a single handset or product of Motorola which created the hype in 2011 except for the Android based Moto Razr smartphone, which was launched at the end of December.

Sanjay Jha, CEO of Motorola said, "Some of the services that are available on most Android phones are not available here, so we have built relationships with Baidu and Microsoft to enable all of those applications to be available on our devices. It's really for others to decide. We have worked to ensure that those services are available."

In CES 2012, Motorola is all set to launch wireless charger for smartphones and has unveiled Droid 4 as well, which has got a great review.

After the Q4 results, Wall Street doubts whether the Google’s decision of overtaking Motorola will be fruitful or not. Shares of Google have fallen by 3.3 percent after the fall of stock crunch of Motorola Mobility last week.
