Bangalore: Women have indeed broken the glass ceiling, especially in the Indian liquor industry, report Boby Kurian and Reeba Zachariah of the Times News Network. Diageo, the largest liquor firm of the world, has head-hunted for some very talented women to head its operations in India.

Once considered a very macho and manly industry, the Indian liquor industry is now becoming a bit feminine with the appointment of a host of talented women. This trend is observed not only in the country but also in other nations. Some of these immensely talented women are as follows –

1) Abanti Sankaranarayanan

Abanti Sankaranarayanan is the Deputy Managing Director of Diageo, India. She is a former Tata Global Beverages exec. She did her Masters from IIM (A). She was a former employee at Tata Tea, Kolkata. She was also the Executive Director and Deputy CEO, Mount Everest Mineral Water before she started working for Diageo. On her former organization, she quoted, “CEOs at the Tata Group bring an exceptional amount of dedication, commitment, capability to work hard and single-minded focus on creating or re-creating whatever business they are in. Most of them are multi-faceted and can engage with you and hold a conversation or discussion on anything – work, philosophy, current affairs, what’s happening around the globe.” Though Sankaranarayanan is a soft-spoken and mild-mannered person, she knows how to get proper work done, using her IIM skills.
