New Delhi: The premier Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will soon be able to go global by opening off-shore campuses, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said Friday. "Government is not opposed to IIMs opening campuses abroad," Sibal said after a meeting with directors of all IIMs here. He said that the HRD ministry has asked the premier business schools to come up with their proposals by January. During the last UPA government, the HRD ministry had rejected a proposal of IIM Bangalore to open campus(es) aboard. Sibal also said that government does not wish to interfere with the day-to-day functioning of these institutions and are in favour of their "autonomy". He said that IIMs will have a larger say in the appointment of directors.
