GITEX meet to be held in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: For the third consecutive year, the Dubai World Trade Centre will hold its flagship event Gitex in this southern city from January 12 to 14 next year to showcase the latest IT products and services. The event will also provide a major business platform for IT and communication (IT&C) companies, Mubarak Bin Fahad, director-general of Dubai World Trade Centre, told a news conference here Wednesday. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, one of India's leading promoters for the use of IT in governance, and senior state government officials were present at the conference. Mubarak said Gitex Hyderabad, launched in 2002 to serve the huge Indian market, was becoming more successful with each passing year. He expected about 110 exhibitors to participate in next year's exhibition, being planned on a larger scale at the Hitex international exhibition centre near Hi-tec City, which houses many IT giants. As many as 7,800 business visitors are expected to visit Gitex 2004. Fahad hoped that Gitex would progressively increase in size and scale and provide an effective business-to-business stage for the IT&C industry. Gitex Hyderabad 2002 attracted 45 exhibitors and 2,569 business visitors. About 4,500 business and professional visitors attended the event in 2003. Dubai World Trade Centre also holds its flagship event in Dubai, Riyadh, Cairo and Beirut. Naidu said next year's event would again underscore the potential opportunities that Andhra Pradesh offers to IT companies seeking to expand their operations, not just in the state but to markets across India and abroad. "We are confident that Gitex Hyderabad will showcase the state's potential as the premier centre in India for business process outsourcing (BPO) and e-governance solutions," he said. S.V. Ramachandran, regional director of the National Association of Software and Service Companies, said his organisation would hold a two-day conference alongside Gitex to focus on e-governance opportunities, BPO and hardware.
