Bangalore: Microsoft recently launched the web based version of popular mobile game ‘cut the rope’. The enriched, functional version, which run smoothly on any HTML5 supported browser especially IE9, may mark an end to the dominance of players like Apple and Android in the app economy.

With the rise of app industry, the web based apps went to a dormant state as they failed to entertain users with the ‘coolness’ of a native app developed for platforms like iOS and Android. This gave a huge power to companies like Apple that license and distributes apps and takes a cut on their revenue.

But with the web version of ‘cut the rope’, HTML5 is showing its power in the app ecosystem by allowing developers to make applications which can compete with apps developed for native platforms.

Microsoft had developed the new version in partnership with PixelLab and ZeptoLab, the makers of the game. With the launch, Microsoft also plans on promoting their new browser IE9 as the game comes with special levels accessible only to IE9 users and also availability of a pinning function between Windows 7 and IE9.

Cut the rope is physics based puzzle game developed in 2010 with more than 60 million downloads since its release.
