Bangalore: Android developers who repackage their apps for the BlackBerry platform by today can take home a 16 GB BlackBerry Playbook, according to a tweet by Alec Saunders, VP of Developer Relations at RIM.  The offer was later extended to any app that would be reconstructed to suit BlackBerry’s OS. Native platforms whose apps were later included had BlackBerry WebWorks, Native, and Adobe AIRv on the list.

A few of the requirements that developers would have to meet include registration with the BlackBerry App World as a developer. One must also convert his or her Android app after a submittal to the BB App World by 13 February, and applications will have to meet the BlackBerry App World Vendor Guidelines. BlackBerry on its blog announced a set of repackaging tools that developers could use for the conversion, so as to minimize their hassle. App developers would have to remove all mention of the word “android” from their apps (and its description) before submission, as well as all links to the android market. The Application should be built so that it is at least compatible with the BlackBerry OS 2.0, and must have signed code.

BlackBerry has launched a host of promotional offers even for users this month, with the “Free BBM” service ads doing rounds on Indian media, and news of 6 months of free music downloads if the user downloads BBM Music in the month of February in other countries.
