Bangalore: With the increasing adoption of cloud computing by firms around the globe, BMC Software is looking at this emerging technology as a major revenue driver for the company in the future. "Coming out of recession, companies are more interested in virtualization and cloud computing," says Paul Avenant, Senior Vice President, ESM Products and Support, BMC Software. Gartner recently predicted that 95 percent of companies that currently use SaaS applications plan to continue or expand their use in 2010. According to the research firm, the companies cite the widespread cost effectiveness of SaaS as well as the constantly improving capability offered by vendors that specialize in cloud computing. In an attempt to cash in on this huge opportunity in the market, BMC Software plans to offer more versions of its software in the SaaS model in the coming year, according to Avenant. In January, BMC had announced that its Remedy IT Service Management (ITSM) Suite would be available to customers in a SaaS model. In November last year, the company joined hands with enterprise cloud computing firm, Salesforce.com to host and offer BMC Service Desk Express, a service desk application. Salesforce.com is offering the software from its Force.com cloud computing platform. Recently, BMC also announced that it has passed the $100 million mark in highly strategic 'cloud foundation' deals where virtualization and computing management capabilities were the key element in the customer's final selection.
