Bangalore:The limitations of development teams and IT Ops do not seem to hinder the growth of apps, as 2012 is to see an unprecedented rise of 20 percent in app development and environment.

The Annual Application Performance Management Survey by AppDynamics reveals the existence of a quagmire created by complex developing environments, long mean-time-to solutions and the over dependence on outdated tools for production.

The apps field is headed for a massive growth according to the survey which gathered information from250 IT ops and development professionals. Over 40 percent of them have more than 10 mission critical applications under development, and nearly 40 percent process over 10,000 transactions per day. This requires a quick release cycle in the future

50 percent of surveys respondents plan to move 20 percent of their mission critical operations to cloud environment which results in 36 percent has already begun constructing applications that will fit the cloud environment. Altogether the field will experience a 12-25 percent growth in 2012.

Among the developers in survey, 80 percent experienced at least 1 severe problem in their mission critical apps last year and above 50 percent experienced more than 5 errors regarding the same. Survey also lists the problems which prevent the rapid growth in the field as more than 60 percent of respondents still depend on the outdated tools like log files which cost them more than 2 hours for problem resolving. Only a few are using modern products designed for managing the distributed applications.

According to Jyoti Bansal, CEO of AppDynamics, “These survey results confirm: application performance environments are already complex and facing a high rate of change and the complexity is only going to grow in 2012.”
