American Indian to get $6 Million Funding
Santa Clara: The U.S. Energy Department has announced its aid of more than $6 million towards helping American Indian groups with energy development projects. Steven Chu, the U.S. Energy Secretary, announced that 31 tribal energy projects would receive federal funds during the next two years as part of a partnership with tribal nations, reports United Press International. Chu said that the tribal nations are on a suitable verge to take advantage of the benefits of clean energy and energy-efficient technologies. The Energy Department is looking forward to these sectors to contribute for economic development of the country. The project will help the tribal groups advance the clean energy technologies. The entire fund will target to overcome three deficiencies in the clean technology. Around $2 million will be spent on the improvements in the energy efficiency of buildings, another $2 million will focus on developing the workforce needed for clean-energy development and the remaining fund will be utilized to help reduce the tribal heating and cooling costs by at least 30 percent. Chu adds that such projects will save energy and money, and will create long-term, clean-energy jobs. This will add towards economic development in tribal communities nationwide.
