Acquia to Push Use of Free Website Building Software in India

NEW DELHI: Open-source software company Acquia said it will expand its presence in India to promote use of free website building software Drupal. "We have two training partners in India, which we are planning to scale up massively. In this visit we are doing need analysis of Indian market and soon we will announce initiative specific to India," Chief Marketing Officer Ronald C Pruett, Jr. said. Drupal is an open source software project which allows users to build website for free using various softwares and applications available on this platform. Acquia will focus on training partners in India who will further disseminate this training across the country. "Through this training programme we will develop skilled Drupal professionals as more and more people are coming on to the net, the demand for website building professionals is increasing. Drupal will help companies build their websites without having to pay for the software for free," Ronald said. On Google India's move to offer free websites to an estimated five lakh small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country, Dries Buytaert, CTO and Co-founder of Acquia and Drupal said, "Google's announcement is positive for industry." "It will increase awareness among people on importance of website. As they mature they will need to expand and build more complex website where Drupal will com into picture."
