Mrinal Sen: A prominent powerful figure in the Indian Cinema is Mrinal Sen, the legend in making Parallel cinema. He dealt with prevailing realistic problems of middle class and the way they dealt with it. His films on social concerns made him one of India's important film-maker. He was born on May 14, 1923 in the town of Faridpur, now in Bangladesh. He came to Calcutta to study Physics but later got driven by his passion for films and and eventually rose to fame with his meaningful films.  His movies, Kharij won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1983; Akaler Sandhane, won the Silver Bear, Special Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1981.

Bimal Roy: Referred to as  'The Silent Master', Bimal Roy is an acclaimed director of Indian Cinema,

who rose to prominence with his stunning movies like, 'Do Bigha Zameen' , 'Parineeta', 'Bandini', 'Sujata', 'Madhumati' and 'Biraj Bahu'. Roy was born into an old landholding family on 12 July1909 in Suapur, in former East Bengal, now Bangladesh. After the death of his father, his family was struggling, as the estate managers threw them out of the Zamindari. His family was devoid of money and then young Roy came to Calcutta with his mother and younger brothers. With his prominence and art, he won several awards, which includes several filmfares and won International prize in Cannes Film Festival for his movie, 'Do Bigha Zameen'. Though he is not with us anymore, he left behind a great legacy for Indian cinema.

Mahashay Dharmapal Gulati: A famous entrepreneur, commonly known as the MDH man, reigns supreme in the spice industry of India. He is prominent enough to be seen in each advertisement of the MDH spices; MDH stands for "Mahashian Di Hatti". Mahashay Dharampal Gulati was born and brought up in Sialkot, a city presently in north-east Punjab province of Pakistan. As Gulati gave up schooling before his fifth standard exam, he started working at a very young age. In 1919 his father sold spices from a shop called "Mahashian Di Hatti". On September 7th, 1947 Gulati along with his family reached a refugee camp in Amritsar, 23 years old then, and later came to Delhi for work. Later he set up a spice shop at Ajmal Khan Road in Delhi and started his spice business that presently is a known spice brand in every single household, named MDH; which is now a 500 crore business.
