1. Wular Lake Wular is India's largest fresh water lake located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The lake is fed by Jhelum river and was created due to tectonic activity. Spread over 200 sq kms, it is 16 km long and 9.6 km wide. The lake is a well know habit for birds. Among the terrestrial birds observed around the lake are, Himalayan golden eagle, Himalayan woodpecker, Golden oriole, Blue rock pigeon, Small cuckoo, Short-toed eagle and Sparrow hawk. It is also a migratory site for many water fowl species such as Little Egzet, Cattle Egzet, Shoveler, Common Pochard and Mallard.

Wular lake is also an important habitat for fish and contributes to about 60 percent of fish yield of Kashmir valley. There are many areas of interest around the lake. Sopur at the south end of the lake is known for its Apple and Walnut trees. Ningal Nullah is the main resort town for hiring boats and cruises on the lake. To the north of the lake is Narmarg, a popular trekking centre. Close to the lake at Shadipure, there are a ruins of a number of Hindu and Buddhist shrines. There are also facilities for hiring houseboats and sailing boats on the lake. The three main mooring places are at Ningal Nullah, Kiuhnus Bay and Ajus Spur. Wular lake can be reached through buses plying between Srinagar tourist reception centre to the spot every day. It can also be reached along Jhelum river.
