Bangalore: People have a special relationship with food. Food is seen as an agent that brings people together. Still, there are many things that people don’t know about food. 1) Kopi Luwak: FACT: One of the costliest coffee in the world comes from the Droppings of a Civet.

Also called Civet Coffee, Kopi Luwak is the world's one of the most expensive and low-production varieties of coffee. It is made from the beans of coffee berries, which have been eaten by the Asian Palm Civet and other related civets and then passed through its digestive tract. Passing through a civet's intestines, the beans are defecated, hence, keeping their shape. After gathering, these droppings are thoroughly washed, sun dried, lightly roasted and brewed, thus yielding an aromatic coffee with much less bitterness. These coffee beans are widely noted as the most expensive in the world, with prices ranging between $(120 – 600) per pound. Kopi Luwak is produced mainly on the islands of Sumatra, Java, Bali and Sulawesi in the Indonesian Archipelago and also in the Philippines but are mostly consumed in Japan and the US.

 

2) Bedouin Feasts: FACT: The Guinness Book of World Records lists the Whole Stuffed Camel as the "largest item on any menu in the world."

The Whole Stuffed Camel is a traditional Bedouin wedding dish, served at the weddings of sheikhs and their family members. Making this dish is a Herculean task because of the food stuffs that go into it and also the time involved. A whole stuffed camel is a culinary delicacy composed of a medium-sized camel stuffed with a sheep, a lamb or a goat stuffed with a chicken stuffed with fishes stuffed with eggs. This enormous dish is cooked over a charcoal fire. Though this dish takes a lot of time to be cooked, it is still considered to be a gastronomical delight.
