Royal Delft

Established In: 1653

Royal Deft, the earthenware manufacturer was established in 1653 by David Anthonisz. It celebrated its 350th anniversary in 2003. David Anthonisz started this company after the Dutch East India Company brought with it the blue painted porcelain from China. The company thrived in the 17th century but faced tough competition from the European porcelain industry in the 19th century. The company was bought by Joost Thooft in 1876. He together with Leo Senf gave Royal Deft a second lease of life.

The London Gazette

Established In: 1665

The first edition of the London Gazette saw the light of the day on 7th November 1665. Its original name was the Oxford Gazette.  This is one of the official journals of record of the British government. It publishes among other things-the granting of royal ascent to parliamentary bills, royal proclamations and declaration of awards and medals. All issues of the London Gazette are digitally preserved and are available to the public on the internet.
