Indian American Student Wins 3rd Place in California National Geographic Bee
Bangalore: Rhea Mitr, an Indian American student emerged as the second runner-up in the California state National Geographic Bee competition.
Rhea is a fifth grade student at Quarry Lane School in Dublin, Calif and she bagged the third place competing with 108 semifinalists.
She has won a check of $50, a certificate and a set of National Geographic videos and magazines covering the past two decades. Apart from these, Rhea also received special recognition for being a fifth grader and getting the highest score by a girl in the state event over the last 25 years.
“I went to Sacramento with the only expectation of getting a rich experience in terms of participation. I remained calm during the bee and this helped me think through and analyze many of the questions. I finished 3rd in the state and was very excited about this. This has made me all the more determined to get better at this for the next year. I hope that I will get to represent the State of California and make it big in the Nationals at Washington D.C. next year’’, said Rhea on winning the competition, as reported by OneDublin.org.
