IFS Officer Arrested in U.S. for 'Indecent Assault' on Hotel Employee
Bangalore: Surendra Mahapatra, a 1985 batch forest service officer, was arrested on charges of ‘indecent assault’ on a female hotel employee in Pennsylvania, reports Nidhi Razdan of NDTV.
Mahapatra has gone to U.S. for a mid-career training programme, along with 30 other officers and the programme is conducted at New York's Syracuse University. According to Government sources, he was arrested yesterday from a hotel.
Direndra Bharghava , the course coordinator told NDTV that Mahapatra is an "old man" and a "thorough gentleman". He told that there was some problem with Mahapatra’s net connections and therefore he had to take help form the reception. A woman came to fix the problem; but she was unable to and left the room. Later on police came and arrested Mahapatra, following a complaint filed by the lady.
The Indian Government is going through the details of the incident, to find out whether they can provide any legal help to Mahapatra.
