Bangalore: Dharun Ravi, who is sentenced to 30 days in a New Jersey jail, might end up spending just 20 days. According to prison regulations in New Jersey, prisoners will be given credit for good behaviour, says Edmond Cicchi Middlesex County Adult Correction Center warden, reports the Star-Ledger newspaper.

For people who are sentenced to 30 days imprisonment, up to 5 days can be cut from their term for good behaviour and another 5 for doing work in the jail such as sweeping and wiping. In majority of the cases short-term prisoners does not have to spend full term in jail. Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan feels that the punishment given to Ravi is not sufficient.

Earlier, it was estimated that Ravi will face up to ten years imprisonment and deportation to India, which was cut down to 30 days and most probably it will be further cut down to 20 days!

Ravi, a former Rutgers University student was convicted in the month of March for spying on his roommate Tyler Clementi, with a webcam, who was with another man. Tyler later committed suicide following the incident.

The charges on him include bias, intimidation, invasion of privacy and evidence tampering.
