BENGALURU: Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy has been formally appointed as the 19th United States Surgeon General on 22nd April, 2015. He is also the first ever Indian American to behold the coveted post. Most Indians probably haven’t heard of Murthy up until now. Besides being honored as the youngest U.S Surgeon General there are some other facts about him and his connection with India which are not known by many.

Dr. Vivek H MurthyDr. Vivek Murthy is the one and only Indian American to chair the honorable position under the U.S. Government. He had sworn in as the 19th U.S. Surgeon General on 22nd April, 2015 by taking an oath on the Bhagawat Gita. His official designation henceforth will be read as Vice Admiral (VADM), Vivek Hallegere Murthy, M.D, MBA. His is now the Vice Admiral in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps as provided by the laws and regulations.
