Twitter To Read Your Tweets For Targeted Ads

Bangalore: Twitter, the social networking giant is introducing a feature that allows advertisers to target ads based on words that appear in users’ tweets, according to Huffington Post reports. The company stated in a blog post that users will hardly see any difference in their access of Twitter accounts and the change doesn’t mean ads will pop up frequently.

According to Twitter, this keyword targeting will bring its users ads that are more relevant to them. For instance, if a user posts a tweet about a band they like, they might see an ad about the band’s upcoming concert nearby. It helps the users to get more information and keep them updated about those targeted keywords.

The company has also stated that it won’t disclose any revenue figures and it will be kept privately. Research firm, eMarketer expects the San Francisco company’s worldwide ad revenue to hit $583 million this year. By 2014, it is expected to grow to nearly $1 billion.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum said that the company is proud of their anti-advertising manifesto as putting advertising on WhatsApp is a bad idea as none of them wants to be interrupted by ads when chatting with loved ones.
