5. Vindhya Mountain Range
Vindhya Mountains are a series of Ranges which runs through the centre of the country. It literally separates north India from south India. The southern slopes of these ranges are drained of their soil by the Narmada River. Amarkantak is the tallest peak of Vindhya Range, with its elevation in Madhya Pradesh. It is also considered to be one of the holy mountains of India because of the Hindu Goddess ‘Vindhyavasini’.
6. Eastern Ghats
The Eastern Ghats, which are also called as the Mahendra Parvata, situated near the bay of Bengal, are no longer considered to be a Range. The reason being, much of its hills got eroded by the four major rivers of southern india, Godavari, Mahanadi, Krishna and Kaveri. This area also has the largest population of Indian elephants .These mountains extend from west Bengal to Orissa.
