Monsoons Intensifying the Splendor of "God's Own Country"

Vallam Kali

Vallamkali is a traditional boat race in Kerala held along the Kerala backwaters in August that includes various types of paddled longboats. The major event is when the snake boats move in pairs to the rhythm of full-throated singing and shouting watched by an exciting crowd. While the Nehru Trophy Boat Race is a popular Vallam Kali held in the Punnamada Lake, the Aranmula Boat Race held at Aranmula is the oldest and most famous river boat fiesta in Kerala.
