Silver Jubilee Clock Tower

The Silver Jubilee Clock Tower also known as “Big Clock Tower” (Dodda Gadiara) in Mysore is located adjacent to Chamaraja Circle near Mysore Palace.

Built in 1927 to commenmerate the 25 years rule of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the then Maharaja of Mysore.

Standing 75ft long, it has a dial posing numerals in Kannada.

Made to be built in Indo-Sarcenic style, but mixed in with others. Such as the curvilinear chhajja representing the Rajasthani tradition, while the tall double arches and framing slit windows shows the glimpse of English church architecture.

Mint Clock Tower

Initially known as the South India Watch Company, the now so called Mint clock tower was started in 1909 by Haji Mirza Abdul Gani Namazi of Iranian descent.

It is a remnant of art deco style of architecture.

A stand alone tower of height 60ft sway constructional features as linear model, thin lines and high use of cement concrete, located in George Town, Chennai.

The clock has a pendulum, a swinging weight, as its time-keeping element and runs on weight-driven mechanism.
