Volvo Aims To Sell 2,000 Cars, Set To Take On Merc, Audi & BMW


BANGALORE: Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo Auto India (VAI) is all set to join the race of compact luxury cars in India. This can be seen as an open challenge for the other car- makers such as Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW. Volvo has introduced two brand new cars in the range of 30 lakh. Volvo has established its presence in India since 2007and is now launching a congregated plant here.

With the launch of small luxury hatchback V40 diesel and V40 Cross Country with 1.6 litre petrol engine, Volvo boasts to sell 2,000 cars this year in India, which were just 1,200 units in 2014. The company has also promised to launch four new models this year, which consists of all-new luxury car XC90. Presently it makes sales out of five luxury models - Volvo S80, Volvo S60, Volvo XC60, Volvo V40 and Volvo XC90. Volvo Auto India is also grabbing the roots in the dealership network across the country.

According to Tomas Ernberg, Volvo Auto India Managing Director, "We set out on a growth plan a few years ago. In the past three years, we have seen our dealer footprint increase to 20 from five and sales have increased multi-fold. We should be closing the year with 2,000 cars led by the newer compact car," reports The Economic Times.

Volvo Cars currently markets products through its outlets in New Delhi, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, Vishakhapatnam and Pune. And, the company expects to grow its sales in West Delhi and Kolkata with a new dealership opening.
