Story of India's 6 Best Road Networks One Should be Aware of


BENGALURU: India is placed second in the list of longest road network in the world with a total length of 4, 32,000 km. The entire Indian road network includes 1000 km of expressways, 79,243 km of national highways, 1, 31,899 km of state highways and other major district and rural roads.  This network of roads consists of Elevated Expressways, Cloverleaf Interchanges, River Road Bridges and Flyovers which make it longest and largest in India as well as in Asia.

India has got the biggest highway networks in the world—The Golden Quadrilateral highway network, which is spread over 5,846 km and connects Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata;—the four major Indian cities. Lately, even Mumbai got its flyover after a long wait, known as Santa Cruz- Chembur Link Road. This road also takes the credit of being India’s first double-decker flyover that connects the Western Express Highway (WEH) in Santa Cruz to the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) in Chembur.

Longest National highway

Indian national highway networks cover over 79,000 km of national highways and express highways. The National Highway 44 or NH 44 (previously named NH 7), is the longest national highway spread across 2,369 km. This North-South national highway runs through the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
